Pistachio is one of Iran’s main and valuable products cultivated in warm and semi-warm regions. Below are some relevant facts about pistachios in Iran:

Types of Pistachios: There are more than 200 types of pistachios in Iran, with some of the most famous ones being: Fandoghi pistachio, Kalleh Ghouchi pistachio, Badami pistachio, Akbari pistachio, and Ahmad Aghaei pistachio.

Regions Where Pistachios are Cultivated: Most of Iran’s pistachios are grown in provinces such as Kerman, Fars, Yazd, Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, Semnan, and Qom. Kerman Province alone produces over 70% of the country’s pistachios.

Exports and Markets: In the first half of the Iranian year 1402, Iran exported over 150,000 tons of pistachios valued at $1.2 billion. Russia stands out as one of the largest buyers of Iranian pistachios, purchasing various high-quality pistachio varieties.

Harvest Season: Depending on the type and cultivation region, the pistachio harvest season can extend from late Mordad (mid-August) to late Aban (mid-November). Generally, early varieties like Ghazvini and Ouhandi are harvested in late Mordad, while late varieties like Ahmad Aghaei and Akbari are harvested in late Aban.

Price Variations: The price of pistachios is influenced by various factors, including type, quality, size, packaging, market demand, exchange rates, transportation costs, customs duties, and weather conditions.

Packaging for Exports: Iranian pistachios for export are typically packaged in various weights ranging from 10 to 50 kilograms. Different packaging options include sack bags, polypropylene bags, cardboard boxes, and wooden or metal crates. Vacuum packaging can also be used to preserve the quality and flavor of pistachios.
