Dates are one of Iran’s agricultural products with a wide variety in terms of varieties, properties, prices, and target markets.

Iran cultivates over 400 varieties of dates, some of the most famous being Mazafati, Piarom, Kabkab, Zahedi, Shahani, Estamaran, Rangdaneh, Khasui, Berhi, Rabbi, Dried Dates, and Wet Dates. These varieties differ in terms of shape, color, size, taste, moisture content, price, and properties, serving various purposes such as consumption, industrial use, and medicinal applications. Some varieties like Mazafati, Piarom, Kabkab, and Zahedi are more suitable for export, while others like Shahani, Estamaran, Rangdaneh, and Khasui are mainly for domestic consumption and the production of date products like syrup, paste, vinegar, and more.

Dates are a significant and beneficial fruit in Iran, cultivated in warm and semi-warm regions. According to statistics, the five major date-producing provinces in Iran are Sistan and Baluchestan, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Hormozgan, and Fars, contributing to over 99% of the country’s date production.

The price of dates in Iran depends on various factors, including the variety, quality, packaging, demand, customs tariffs, and exchange rates. Generally, fresh and semi-fresh dates have higher prices compared to dried dates, and exported dates are priced higher than those for domestic consumption.
